Ages ago – actually back in September 2007 – I posted about a new corpse making video I came across from effects artist Christian Hanson at his website www.MonsterCloset.com. At the time I hadn’t actually seen the video, but the promo on the site looked promising. Well, the latest Haunted Attraction Magazine came out this month with a review of the video, and I decided to go ahead and buy it. It was the look of the corpse teeth that did it for me, and the fact that Hanson now has a video preview available on his site which I’ll post below from Youtube.
After watching it my overall impression is this – if you have more time than money then this is the way to make a corpse. Hanson gets excellent results using materials anyone can achieve unless you live in the wilds of Alaska or anywhere else there isn’t a hardware store and craft store available to you. While the techniques do seem a bit time consuming we Home Haunters are used to this. What other group of folks will papier mache a giant pumpkin in lieu of spending a couple of hundreds bucks buying one from a vendor. The kind of folks with no budget that’s who.
The price of the video is just right at 19.95 and contains full step-by-step details on how to turn PVC, zip ties, wig heads, and other common materials into a really great looking prop. Now I’ve been corpsing for years, and I learned a thing or two from Hanson’s instruction, and I was thoroughly entertained by the cast of characters peopling the castle monster lab set in his video. Yes, not only is there plenty of instructions, but funny dialog and skits reminiscent of Saturday Night Horror Hosts of today and days gone by. In an industry filled with boring over-priced how-to videos of poor production quality this one is one of the best and should be a permanent part of your Halloween library.
