This weekend it’s a retro Drive-In Show Friday & Saturday. It’s at the Riverside Drive-In, Route 66, Vandergrift, PA (about 45 minutes North East of Pittsburgh).

Creepy Classics/Monster Bash will be on hand with thousands of DVDs, posters, models, books, magazines and more retro goodies! We’ll be set up in the concession stand (which is very cool). Get your hot dogs, pizza, popcorn, soda and monster stuff!

Lake Placid 3 is pulse pounding, adrenaline pumping, pure horror film fun.

I just saw this floating around on Facebook. Here’s the first images from the Fright Night remake with David Tennant as the Peter Vincent character. Not quite the likeness of the Roddy McDowall version from 1985, eh? Apparently this go around, Peter Vincent is a Las Vegas style magician whose show is called Fright Night. So I was sort of excited about Monsters when I first saw the trailer a couple of weeks back. I have yet to see this movie, but I have been hearing things fly about the web on it.

Reportedly this film was made for a budget of on $15,000 – yes folks that’s 15 thousand, not million. Here’s the scoop and the trailer is below.

Monsters Synopsis: Six years ago, NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms – monsters – began to appear there, and half of Mexico was quarantined as an “infected zone”. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the creatures. Our story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through the infected zone to the safety of the US border.

The ominous title Monsters is something of a misnomer. Edwards’ aim was to make “the most realistic monster film ever,” and the final product is as atypical a creature feature as you might expect from that description. The pace is slow, the action is minimal, the scares are few and far between, and in fact, it’s more drama than horror movie. Basically, it’s Cloverfield meets The African Queen.

That said, it’s an amazing-looking film, like an otherworldly travelogue in which the lush jungle scenery is broken up by an occasional 50-foot tentacle. The CGI effects are alternately dazzling and, even more impressive, so realistic that they blend into the fabric of the film. You might find yourself squinting to figure out what’s real and what’s not. Although it’s not a “POV film” like Cloverfield or The Blair Witch Project, it uses similar camera movements (panning, shaking) to mask any special effects deficiencies and conveys a similar sense of intimacy that makes you feel like you’re in the thick of it all.

I suppose I’m still sort excited to see Monsters. I mean – giant tentacled monsters stopping around Mexico – sounds like a decent time at the movies to me. And I really like the fact it was made guerrilla style and for no budget with a 5 person crew and the actors ad-libbing their lines. So what do you all think?

Horrorfind Weekend – The Spookiest Show On Earth.

I made mention a while back of Horrorfind Weekend getting a new location in Gettysburg, PA. I though I’d put out this quickie post to see if any of you will be attending. I have a brother who lives in Gettysburg so I’ll be going – at least on Saturday – and am going to try and hit the film festival and watch the costume contest where Bruce Campbell will be appearing.

The Gettysburg location – click here for more info on the venue – is just a few miles over the Maryland line. For many regular attendees it will be closer, for some it will be further, but it is easy to get to for everyone who has come from far and near to enjoy the HorrorFind Weekend.

The Amateur Monster Movie

One things for sure when you start poking around the web looking for horror movies, there’s no shortage of amateurs doing them. Most indeed are just a bunch of buddies with a Sony Handycam out for a weekend of beer drinking hoping to strike it rich making the next Blair Witch, and yeah, a lot are rubbish. I ganked this one from The Horror Squad and I have to agree it shows promise.

After a group of boy scouts are mysteriously killed by a wolf-like creature on Cadaverous Island, Walter Romero, whose best friend was among the killed, sets out to find exactly what happened. In order to reach the island, Walter teams up with Johnny Mason, neighborhood stoner, to smoke up Ashley Valinski, neighborhood hottie, and get her to take them out on her father’s boat. But soon after arriving on Cadaverous Island, a horde of zombies steals their boat, leaving them stranded, and the three are forced to team up with two cops, the mayor, and a team of botanists to either kill the monsters… or be killed themselves….. DUN-DUN-DUN!!!

I can’t quite decide whether or not Canada is the most awesome (yes, grammarians – I know the title of this post is a bit awkward) place ever or just sucks because I can’t hit any of the things that go on there.
